Army Public School Akhnoor was established in 1974 as Chenab Public School. The school was redesignated as Army School in 1990. In 1995, the school bifurcated into Army School and Army Primary School. In April 2009 Army Primary School merged with Army School Akhnoor. The school was shifted to its present location in July 2012. The school is affiliated to CBSE and is being run under the aegis of the Army Welfare Education Society. At present the school is having classes upto 12th.
APS Akhnoor visualizes to be an institution of excellence where sound ethical value, character, wisdom, leadership, service and academic achievement are encouraged in a safe and nurturing environment.
The vision of Army Public School Akhnoor is to Educate, Enlighten and Empower the students by providing opportunities to create Global Citizens and leaders of tomorrow through traditional values of love, empathy, discipline and respect.

These words have always spoken to me on an innate level. Education today is not what it was ten years ago. It is clear that the ethos of modern education need a radical change. I have seen education and educators evolve to match pace with the changing times. Over the years, I have realised that outstanding teachers do not possess special skills, but rather inspire their students and give them enough space to become the best version of themselves. The standard approach to education has been to grade and try to fit them into boxes. Recent years have seen a shift from this methodology. At APS Akhnoor, we realise that there is no ‘one-size fits all’ mould. Every day, we try to change the rules of the game - if our school is filled with students who are shaped like circles, stars and hearts, we have to build circle, star and heart shaped holes.....
Practicals are as important as theory. Therefore, we have 7 laboratories for students to do research work.
